STEP Approach

Seneca Services Step Approach What We Do

What We Do

Seneca’s STEP (Skills Transitions Exploration Progress) program is a partial hospitalization program that provides intensive, short-term, stabilization services. The goal is for clients to reintegrate into school and the community with lower levels of outpatient mental health treatment. This provides youth with a calm, supportive, therapeutic space to not only learn new coping skills but to also process and resonate with peers who may be experiencing similar things.

Seneca Services Step Approach At Each Location

At each STEP program we offer:

  • Daily therapeutic groups led by a multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • Individual and family therapy, psychiatry evaluation, and medication management.
  • Structured and individualized treatment interventions and schedules.
  • Dedicated schoolwork time, coordination of care with school teams, and taper plans to support gradual return to school.
  • Coordination of care with mental health providers and extracurricular activities.
  • Safety planning, discharge planning, and support connecting to longer-term resources.

Who We Serve

STEP serves youth ages 12 to 17 who are experiencing mental health symptoms that are impacting their daily lives. During this transitional phase of life, youth may be experiencing stressors related to school, friendships, family, or other areas of their life.

At STEP, we understand that adolescents who are experiencing mental health challenges may have difficulty attending school, completing daily life tasks, and interacting with others in their lives. We are here to support youth with processing what is going on for them and creating treatment plans to support their reduction in symptoms and return to daily life.
