New Exhibit Supports Student Artists in Alameda County

By Annie Greenberg
This month, we celebrated the launch of “Creating Our Future”, a vibrant student art exhibit at the Hayward Public Library, hosted in partnership with the Hayward Arts Council. It features powerful work from youth in Seneca’s HEART & Constellation programs, part of our larger Unconditional Education model.
This exhibit brings together artists from elementary through high school across multiple districts, with each piece reflecting the student’s lived experience. For many of our young artists, this is more than an art show—it’s an opportunity to be seen, celebrated and connected to their community. This year is our biggest show yet, with 84 pieces on display!
HEART and Constellation are two of Seneca’s Counseling Enriched Classroom programs. They collaborate with local school districts in Alameda County to provide mental health services for special education students on public school campuses. These specialized classrooms include mental health therapists and trained behavioral health staff so students can receive the support they need to be successful during the school day—while also enjoying all the benefits of a mainstream school campus.

We teach key skills such as mindfulness, restorative justice, positive communication, and self-regulation so that our students can successfully navigate their relationships, school journey, and ultimately their careers.
The artwork being featured in this exhibit is all for sale. Prices start at just $3 and are set by the students themselves. All proceeds from the sales will return directly to the young artists to support their continued creative endeavors and education in the arts.
If you’re in the area, be sure to stop by the library to see the exhibit before it closes on May 4th! Pieces will be scheduled for pick-up at the Hayward Public Library the Tuesday after the exhibit closes (please note that shipping is not available).
