Emergency Short-Term Care

Seneca Services Emergency Short Term Care

Overview

Seneca’s emergency short-term care programs provide a comfortable and home-like environment for youth involved in the child welfare system. These programs are able to receive a young person at any time of day, whether they are just entering the foster care system or are experiencing a loss or change of placement.

Approach

Seneca’s transitional Short-Term Residential Therapeutic Programs and Welcoming Center models provide a setting where youth, who are likely experiencing profound isolation and distress, can be welcomed by empathetic adults and provided with a calm, stable environment. What makes Seneca’s programs unique is their small size — and that we operate out of residential homes in local neighborhoods.

Our programs are staffed around the clock by specially trained staff who screen each child for immediate physical and safety needs. Program staff attend to each child’s physical, emotional, and mental health needs and help facilitate a successful transition for youth into home-based care.

The goal of Seneca’s short-term transitional programs is to minimize trauma and stabilize youth entering foster care or experiencing placement disruption.
