Higher Education Partnerships

Graduate-level clinical internships in California and Washington.
Seneca Careers Higher Education Partnerships Overview

Seneca has a long history of partnering with universities to provide internship placement for master’s level students. In fact, many of our Directors and Senior Leadership Team members started as MSW or MFT interns themselves! We provide a warm and dynamic environment, where you can learn and grow while doing deeply meaningful work. Opportunities for both Seneca employees and those unaffiliated with Seneca are available at our locations throughout California and Washington.

Seneca Careers Higher Education Partnerships Approach

Graduate Internships

Seneca provides in-depth clinical internship and practicum placement and training opportunities for MSW, MFT, and PCC interns, as well as PhD/PsyD and macro-level MSW placements in select locations. We do not offer remote/virtual clinical internships. Stipends are available for qualified applicants.

Please note post-graduate associates are not eligible for our internship program, which is designed for those enrolled in graduate programs. However, you may qualify for any of the clinician/therapist positions at Seneca. As an employee, Seneca will assist you in gaining your hours and trainings, as well as supervision and support, as you move towards licensure.

Our founding commitment to do whatever it takes to help children and families thrive — no matter how profound the problems they face — forms our philosophical basis and clinical treatment model of Unconditional Care. As a leading innovator in family-focused, healing-centered, culturally responsive treatment for children and families, our services are highly accessible and attuned to the unique needs and goals of each child and family.

Embedded Programs for Staff

Embedded program scholarships let our employees maintain full-time income and benefits while completing their master’s degree and practicum at Seneca through an affiliated university.

Earn Your MSW or MFT While Working at Seneca

Seneca has partnered with the following schools to offer our employees the opportunity to earn a Master of Social Work or Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy:

  • CSU Northridge’s online MSW program
  • CSU San Bernardino’s Pathways Distance Education MSW
  • Columbia University’s Reduced Residency online MSW
  • University of Southern California’s online MSW

Staff selected for this program receive significant scholarships from Seneca, as well as completing their internship for pay, letting them continue earning full-time wages and benefits throughout the program. Staff who received an undergraduate BSW from an accredited program can join the advanced standing cohort and complete the program in four semesters, while those with another undergraduate degree complete the program in two-and-a-half to three years.

Earn Your Teaching Credential While Working at Seneca: Seneca SpEd at LMU

Seneca employees are eligible to apply to obtain their mild/moderate special education teaching credential through Loyola Marymount University. Seneca provides substantial scholarships toward the credential while staff continue to work and earn full-time pay and benefits. Employees may obtain an optional MEd following completion of the special education credential. The credential can be earned in one or two years, and the optional MEd is completed after the credential.

For questions about Seneca’s embedded graduate programs, please contact Seneca’s graduate program manager at [email protected]. The embedded programs are only available to Seneca employees, so please do not apply unless you have already started employment with us. Admission to one of our partner universities does not guarantee a spot in the embedded program, and participation in the embedded programs does not guarantee employment as a clinician or teacher upon completion of the program.
