Bringing the F.U.N. Back to Work: How One Committee is Transforming Our Program Culture

Let’s be honest—when you work in a field that supports others through complex, emotionally demanding experiences, it’s easy for work to take center stage and for balance to quietly slip to the sidelines. That’s why, this year, one of our big program goals was simple but powerful: help our staff build a better work-life balance. Enter the real MVPs: the F.U.N. Committee.

At the heart of our trUE SF Program, the F.U.N. Committee—dreamed up by our incredible trio, Mickey, Katy, and Ernesto—has been leading the charge in making sure connection, joy, and community aren’t just “nice to have,” but a core part of how we show up at work. So… what exactly is the F.U.N. Committee?

Good question! While the name says it all, the impact goes much deeper than planning a few fun activities here and there (though they definitely excel at that too). The F.U.N. Committee was created with intention—to foster meaningful connection among staff in a way that supports both individual well-being and a stronger, more cohesive team.

Cultivating culture, one moment at a time:

A strong program culture doesn’t just happen. It’s something that has to be nurtured, shaped, and invested in consistently. That’s where the F.U.N. Committee continues to shine. Their work isn’t just about events—it’s about centering joy, connection, and sustainability in our day-to-day experience at work. They remind us that taking care of the people who do the work is just as important as the work itself. And they do it with style. We’re talking about:

  • Staff party invites delivered in costume
  • Creative and engaging activities (hello, tie-dye on the beach!)
  • Moments that make people pause, laugh, and feel appreciated

In short? They’ve truly brought the FUN—and then some.

The bigger picture

What started as a thoughtful idea from three staff has grown into something that’s meaningfully shaping our program culture. It’s a reminder that small, intentional efforts can create big, lasting impact.

Because when we invest in joy…
When we create space for connection…
When we prioritize well-being…
Everyone benefits.

So here’s to the F.U.N. Committee—the heart, the creativity, and the energy behind so many meaningful moments this year. Thank you for reminding us that even in the midst of important, challenging work, there’s always room for a little more fun.
