Continuing to Grow at Creekside Middle School

Creekside Middle

By Jessica Welsh

The UE Constellation program is excited to highlight our continuing partnership with Creekside Middle School! Creekside is located in Castro Valley and is one of two middle schools in this small East Bay town.

This is our second full year partnering with Creekside Middle School, and we continue to collaborate to find new and creative ways to support the evolving needs of students and staff on campus. Each of our UE partnerships is unique, and based on the strengths and needs of our school partners, whose input informs what supports and services we provide. Our Creekside partnership is a great example of this responsive approach to partnership.

This school year (2025-2026) in addition to supporting a full Counseling Enriched Classroom (CEC) for students in special education, there was a need to support the general education students through tier two and three support. In a multi-tiered system of support in schools, tier one is schoolwide, preventative support for all students, tier two is early intervention small group intervention, and tier three is more intensive, individualized intervention support.

Our clinical intern AJ De Leon and part-time clinician Camille Maccan have been working hard to become integral members of the community. In fact, AJ was recently named staff of the week at the school, an honor which came with a student video interview shared in homeroom and a preferred parking spot for the week!

The team works collaboratively through the school’s Coordination of Services Team (COST) process to review student referrals. This interdisciplinary team ensures that student needs are viewed through a holistic lens. They review the needs of students referred and create a plan to address any academic, social emotional, and/or behavioral needs. AJ, who is on site full time, holds general education cases and provides individual and family therapy, case management and occasional crisis support. Camille who is only on site part time has a unique new role providing brief individual therapy for students who need support with short term goals.  This is a new targeted service that has been supportive to the campus’ identified need to provide one-on-one services to a wide range of students. In this brief therapy model, services last for 8 weeks during which time goals are identified with clients, and families.

We continue to deeply appreciate aligning our shared vision of the partnership in exciting and ever changing ways.
