Seneca is committed to advancing and improving the systems in which we work. Our commitment to innovation takes many forms, and includes providing an integrated continuum of care defined by the highest standards of practice; information sharing and training through the Seneca Institute for Advanced Practice; cutting-edge research and evaluation efforts; local and state-level advocacy and policy engagement; developing cross-sector partnerships to strengthen service delivery for children and families, and more.
All children deserve access to equitable and exceptional educational services. Seneca offers a broad array of special education and mental health services designed to accelerate academic and behavioral progress, whether in public school or in an alternative non-public school setting. Our school-based services work to close the educational achievement gap experienced by students from low-income communities, students of color, as well as all students enrolled in special education programs.
Seneca has provided mental health services for youth and families with complex and specialized needs since 1985. In close partnership with social services, mental health, juvenile probation, and education agencies, Seneca offers an expansive continuum of culturally-responsive, trauma-informed mental health services that range from outpatient treatment for youth with enduring challenges to short-term crisis response designed to stabilize youth in times of highest need.
Seneca recruits and trains caring families to provide supportive homes to youth in foster care. These parents are referred to as Resource Parents or Resource Families. Seneca seeks and prepares Resource Parents to be well-matched with some of the highest-needs children that come into foster care, and we support those families in caring for children in a trauma-informed, attachment-based, and culturally competent way.
Seneca’s Resource Families are prepared for and committed to parenting children for however long each child needs. This means that parents could foster a child for as little as a day to as long as a lifetime, should adoption become the goal. Permanency program staff and Resource Parents are champions for the children’s birth families, actively supporting reunification and extended relative placement whenever possible, and maintaining relationships with a birth family even in cases when adoption becomes the goal for a child.
For over three decades, Seneca has worked to help children and families through the most challenging times of their lives. We offer a simple promise to each youth and every family we serve: no matter how profound the difficulties you face, we will be with you every step of the way.
