Real-World Experience
Graduate student interns at Seneca receive direct training in child and family services, including orientation to our values, treatment model, and diverse programs. You’ll gain real-world experience with youth and families under the guidance of skilled clinicians, and receive a monthly stipend. Post-graduate clinicians are also eligible for many openings at Seneca.
Time Commitment
In order to establish therapeutic relationships with our youth and families, we require a nine- to 10-month commitment beginning in the fall and continuing through to the spring. Some internship placements can be extended to 12 months if requested at the time of application. Please note: We do not offer winter-start or summer-only fieldwork placements.
All interns are required to complete Seneca’s synchronous, two-week New Employee Orientation (NEO) prior to the internship. Hours are 9 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday to Friday. NEO is offered back-to-back during the summer and once a month for the rest of the year, so interns can select the NEO cycle that will not conflict with classes.
Internship Stipend
- We’ve doubled our internship stipend!
- $600 per month for interns in placement two days (16 hours) per week.
- $1,000 per month for interns in placement three days (24 hours) per week.
- Stipends can be pro-rated for interns completing a different number of hours (e.g. 20 hours per week, four days per week, etc.).
- Interns who complete two years of internship will receive $1,400 per month during their second year of internship if they are in placement 24 hours per week.
Receipts for educational expenses are required for the full stipend.
Who Should Apply?
Training settings are most appropriate for advanced students who already have some exposure to clinical populations and direct work with clients. Students must be currently enrolled in a clinical graduate program to apply. Please note: internship placements do not automatically lead to employment at Seneca.
How to Apply
We begin accepting applications for graduate fieldwork on Feb. 1 of each year and continue accepting applications until all positions are filled for the fall. Applicants are encouraged to apply as soon after Feb. 1 as possible to maximize their chances for interviewing with a program that matches their learning goals, academic requirements, and geographic availability.
1. Visit our Careers Page to submit an online application with the following attachments:
- Cover letter
- Resume
- Completed Fieldwork Matching Form
2. Select “Fieldwork Placement” as the employment category to ensure your application is sent to our fieldwork coordinator.
3. If it is after Feb. 1 and you are unable to upload your application to the online system, you may email your three application documents to [email protected].
Note for Post-Graduate Clinical Associates
As a post-graduate clinician (ASW, AMFT, APCC), you qualify for many of our clinician/therapist positions. As an employee, Seneca will assist you in gaining your hours and training, as well as supervision and support, as you move towards licensure.
