This school year, I had the opportunity to attend and present at the Wellness Together Conference in San Diego alongside Jaz Ponce, Wellness Coach, and Sean Murphy, Director of School Partnerships. The conference brought together educators, clinicians, and community partners from across the state who are deeply committed to student wellness, school engagement, and systems-level change.
For this week’s school highlight, I’d like to introduce one of our newer Los Angeles partner schools: Alliance Milt & Debbie Valera Middle Academy (or “Valera” for short)! Valera is one of twenty-five schools in the Alliance College-Ready Public Schools network here in LA. Opened in 2015, Valera operates alongside Alliance Joni & Jeff Marine High School to create Alliance’s Marine-Innovation & Technology Complex in beautiful Sun Valley, CA.
When people first encounter Seneca, they usually learn about our work in behavioral health, education, and permanency across California and Washington. What’s not always visible is how Seneca operates inside the organization to support the people who make our mission possible.
Sometimes the most meaningful changes start with a simple question: What do our students and families need right now? Leaders at James Baldwin Academy (JBA), one of Seneca’s Nonpublic Schools, thought to ask this question during one of the most demanding and uncertain times of the year.
I’d like to introduce you to one of Unconditional Education’s (UE’s) newer partnerships, Envision Academy of Arts and Technology, nestled in Downtown Oakland. Envision Academy is one of the three schools under the Envision Schools network supporting young people since 2003.
This school year, we are excited to have expanded our partnership with Bridges Academy at Melrose and to welcome a new team to the campus. Bridges Academy at Melrose is an elementary school located in the heart of East Oakland, and Seneca has a long-standing, deeply rooted partnership with the school dating back to 2016.
