How long have you been with Seneca? I have been with Seneca for 5 years. How/why did you start working at Seneca? My senior year of high school was very challenging and with the support of my counselor, who showed up for me unconditionally, I was able to shift my perspective on what I could achieve.
The Unconditional Education (UE) Heart program is excited to highlight our thriving partnership with Anthony Ochoa Middle School! Located in Hayward, CA, Ochoa is a vibrant community dedicated to fostering “High Expectations and High Support” for every student on campus.
Every school has students who need more than what universal supports can provide. But too often, intervention decisions happen in silos, counselors working independently, teachers trying strategies without support, administrators reacting to crises rather than preventing them.
Seneca’s FFES is a youth-driven process of identifying, locating, and engaging relatives and caring adults who can form meaningful, lasting connections with our youth in foster care. The goal isn’t simply to find a name in a file. It’s to build an entire lifetime network of support that follows a young person well beyond the child welfare system.
Supporting students through tough moments is hard work, and it’s not something anyone should have to do alone. That’s why the Cox team is such an incredible partner.
The UE Constellation program is excited to highlight our continuing partnership with Creekside Middle School! Creekside is located in Castro Valley and is one of 2 middle schools in this small East Bay town.
Working at Seneca means showing up for youth and families during some of their hardest moments in their lives. As a first-generation Mexican American woman, I came into this work understanding firsthand what it means to navigate systems that weren’t designed with you in mind.
At the beginning of every year, I find myself thinking less about resolutions and more about intentions. The quieter kind. The ones that ask: Who can I show up for this year? In my work with Seneca’s Resource Family Program, that question feels especially important, because the kids and teens we serve didn’t choose the circumstances that brought them into foster care.Â
At Seneca Family of Agencies, our Unconditional Education Programs are rooted in the belief that every young person deserves to feel safe, supported, and capable of success—no matter the challenges they face. Our new partnership at Impact Academy in Hayward, CA—part of Envision Education, a network of public charter schools—marks an exciting step forward in expanding this commitment within the school community.
Our Unconditional Education team members are actively committed to learning, evolving, and refining our services to best meet the needs of our clients. Engaging our school stakeholders in feedback ensures we understand what we’re doing well and how we can better serve our community.
