STEP Partial Hospitalization Program

STEP (Skills Transitions Exploration Progress)

STEP (Skills Transitions Exploration Progress) is a partial hospitalization program with an individualized, flexible length of stay that meets each youth's needs. We serve youth ages 12-17 (with some exceptions for those who are soon to turn 12) who are at risk of needing a higher level of care or stepping down from higher levels of care.

STEP is primarily a group therapy program that also provides individual treatment, risk assessment and safety planning, psychiatric assessment, medication management, and family therapy. Youth can start any day of the week, Monday-Friday, depending on availability, and will be supported by a multidisciplinary team of medical and mental health professionals to learn skills to manage their mental health needs.

STEP utilizes DBT, CBT, Mindfulness, Narrative Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing in addition to various other interventions to provide individualized treatment to youth and support them in stabilization so that they can return to school and their other typical life activities with a great sense of stability around their mental health

Meet the Team

Seneca’s multidisciplinary team delivers highly individualized group and individual interventions within a structured milieu designed to increase coping, interpersonal, and life skills so that youth can more safely and effectively respond to any challenges they encounter at home, in school, or in the community. The team will work with the youth and family to support their stabilization and connection to needed resources to ensure their long-term recovery, well-being, and safety. Meet the STEP team!

Referral Process

Our STEP Partial Hospital Program (PHP) provides intensive, short-term stabilization services, enabling youth to reintegrate into school and the community with lower levels of outpatient mental health treatment. STEP receives referrals from Intensive Outpatient Programs, Hospitals, and Residential Treatment Centers. Once we receive the referral and necessary paperwork, we reach out to families to discuss the program, answer any questions, and schedule intake. Once intake is completed and it is determined that STEP is an appropriate service for the client, we admit the client and plan for them to join groups. The STEP Referral line is open Monday-Friday, 9 am-4 pm at 510-381-5188.  For any non-urgent program or referral-related questions, STEP Intake Coordinators can be reached at [email protected]
